Betsy Weston - Owner
Betsy (BJ) Weston is a student and teacher of multiple artistic mediums, but her passion is found exploring "art with real life purpose" expressed in fused, kiln-fired glass.
Her Gemini nature is always eager to test the boundaries of the ordinary and the expected. The result is a free-form celebration — expressed in vibrant colors and unique metals — of the beauty found in nature, the joy of everyday experiences and the natural balance so essential to finding inner peace. Both Eastern mysticism and modern expressions of whimsey frequently define her work.
Her love of all dimensions of artistic expressions are among her earliest childhood memories. Drawing, watercolors and oil painting all called to her early in life. After raising a brood roughly comparable to the Brady Bunch, she discovered the joy to be found working in clay. A decade-long love affair with the medium produced a wide range of creative expression, however the rigors of working in oversized pieces — her favorites — eventually found her longing for new artistic challenges.
Since discovering fused glass, all of her childhood longings for a free-form creative outlet and her skills and disciplines as an accomplished ceramist have found a wonderful new outlet in the artist's passionate pursuit of new ways of expression through glass. A lot of life experience along the way, including five children and three (soon to be four) grandchildren, increased her appreciation for the practical as well. Her latest medium brings her substantial artistic curiosity and her love of things both beautiful and useful to full fruition.
Customs orders and commissions are welcome, however each piece is unique and custom-made and therefore variances in finished commissioned work from the artist's samples should be anticipated.
